27.09.22: Lakeward celebrates topping-out ceremony of Ferdinand’s Garden in Berlin-Lichtenberg

Lakeward celebrated the topping-out ceremony of the new construction project “Ferdinand’s Garden” together with the general contractor PORR, district representatives, executing trades, the planners and other guests. This means that the project on Ferdinand-Schultze-Strasse in Berlin-Lichtenberg, with 395 new apartments, is on schedule.

Great development potential in Berlin-Lichtenberg
Ferdinand’s Garden is located in the East Berlin district of Lichtenberg, which has seen steady population growth for years due to continued influxes from Berlin’s more expensive central districts. The significant development potential of the area offers Lakeward the opportunity to gain a foothold in the location with a large residential portfolio. The development includes 395 functional and affordable housing units with average and solid build-out standards, as well as 79 rent-controlled units. Occupancy is scheduled for the end of October 2023.

Efficient through partnership approach
Thanks to the general contractor Porr and the team of planners involved – all of whom had already been integrated into the construction project by the client during the planning and approval phase via the partnering process – the shell of the building was completed as planned for the seven structures. Currently, the roofing work, the installation of the windows, the installation of the technical building equipment and the interior finishing of the apartments are underway.

Demand for affordable housing is huge
Simon Koenig, founder and CEO of Lakeward: “Together with our partners, we are realizing a new, lively residential quarter in a very good location. Daycare centers, playgrounds and green courtyards also add value to the immediate neighborhood. The start of construction of a neighboring school that has already taken place also enhances the location and its quality for existing and future residents in the district. The topping-out ceremony marks an important milestone in our plan to create urban, sophisticated, yet affordable housing and thereby further strengthen Lichtenberg as a residential, living and working district of Berlin.”
